This workshop is designed to provide an introduction to the subject of bioremediation of petroleum contaminated soils. No previous knowledge of the subject is assumed. The workshop format will include lecture, sample problems, and case studies with class participation. Topics to be discussed include:

• How the bugs work (basic metabolism)
• How they eat hydrocarbons (biochemistry of hydrocarbon utilization)
• What they need to live (nutrients, environmental conditions)
• How to put them to work for you (methodology of the bioremediation of soils)
